  • Specimen Known as Jeanne Rose

    Melinda W. Burt

eBook (Pixel Perfect Publishing, Aug. 24, 2014)
Action, adventure, and romance in space! What more could a young girl ask for?Perhaps a hot, teenaged vampire intent on claiming her when they come of age?Little Jeanne Rose has a vivid imagination. She spent many a day, daydreaming of action and adventure in far off places. She longed to see exotic animals, and meet exciting new people. She had even indulged in an occasional fantasy involving a handsome alien or vampire. There was something illicit and thrilling about vampires. Jeanne always thought their long hair, and inner angst was kind of cute. She’d definitely kiss one if she ever got the chance. Well she was only fourteen, and vampires weren’t real. That probably meant she was allowed to think such things, she reasoned. After getting accidentally abducted by aliens, she found herself wishing for just one more boring day at home. The most distressing part of the situation is finding herself all alone on an unmanned drone ship. Her only company is the unreasonable ship’s computer. It seems to have a mind of its own, and she doesn't care much for its decisions. This situation is deadly serious. It’ll take all her skill and cunning to outsmart the evil thing. Goal number one is just to stay alive. While searching through the ship for supplies, she finds a creature locked away securely in one of the containment unis. The ship’s computer identifies it as: Parasite 80997. Species: Vampire. Jeanne is warned from speaking to the creature, and forbid from opening the containment unit. She really should have listened. In retrospect, speaking to the creature might have been a mistake. He turns out to be arrogant, and totally misinformed about their presence on the ship. He keeps insisting she's supposed to be his female. Upon questioning him, she determines he had absolutely no idea what he's talking about. In his world, females need vampire warriors to protect them. The defining characteristic of vampire warriors is, they all have females to protect. Ergo, in the little vampire’s mind, it's a perfect fit for the two of them. Situations like this, practically force her to roll her eyes. Annoying is a word that doesn’t begin to come close to describing her traveling companions. Jeanne quickly concludes, regardless of what the ship’s on board computer has to say on the subject, she’s the smartest one on the ship. She’ll just have to stay a step ahead, and keep outsmarting them, if she ever hopes to make it back to Earth.
